Dinner Near Melrose / Crescent Heights?

We're going to a play at the Zephyer on Melrose. What's good for dinner around there?

  1. Table 8, Foundry, Lucques -- all in the higher end range.
I didn't care for Taste personally, but I know some people like it.
If those places are too fancy for what you're looking for, maybe Angeli?

    1. I haven't been in years so I can't vouch for it, but you should look up some reviews on Carlito's Gardel. It's just a few blocks off of Melrose & Crescent Heights.

      1. Carlito's Gardel is very good if steaks are of interest. On Melrose just west of Fairfax. Also on Beverly at Crescent Hts. is Pastis French bistro, which I really enjoy, and it is a place you can get in and out of as fast as your schedule dictates.

I have lived 4 blocks from Carlitos and have been meaning to try it for 5 years. I just made a reservation for tonight. I'll let you know how it is.

If you like red wines, then let Max, the bald guy and son of owners, guide you to some of the best tasting wines, specifically Argentinian Malbecs, that you may never have known about.
They have all kinds of vintages dating from late 90s to current. Late 90s is when the Argentinian industry did a complete about face and really started making superb wines.
I invariably get the lomo, aka filet, and get a side of the addicting garlic fries to be shared with from 2-4 people.
Mussels appetizer also very good, assuming a liking for them.

Wow....just wow. Great food and Max???? Wow.

            1. Antonio's for good Mexican food on Melrose and Gardner.

A bit further away on Melrose (near La Brea) is Azami for excellent sushi.

              Both are closed on Mondays.

Can't beat Pink's hotdogs either - but often a long line.

There are also many places near Crescent Heights and 3rd - like Surya, Electric Karma, Sofi, Joan's on Third.
