As you guys may remember form our last series of posts, I promised that I would be back soon! And once again, it was lots of fun, lost of good chow and we went to WAY more places than last just SF! But first, allow me to start with a

*GEEKOUT!!!*

OMG! So P. got called up on assignment to Cal Berkley a few months ago… After weaseling my way on the trip for the weekend, he called me the day before my flight that he and cast of the show he was working on were invited on a tour and lunch at PIXAR!!! I am an animation NUT… And before I knew it… here I was!!!

The tour was great, but of course… on to the chow!! Because cameras made them nervous, I snapped this photo quickly of the ‘commons/lunch’ area…

To your left is the Cereal/Salad bar room… basically all you can eat tins of cereal of all types. Healthy to Sugar bombs. Of course the fridge was stocked with milk. From skim to rice… The salad bar was equally impressive with things like super fresh mozz!

The line is for the actual cooking area. Everyday their specials change and its all made fresh there. They offer things like Sushi and Fancy Salads and Grilled items. But the thing that impressed me the most was the Wood Burning Pizza oven!!

So of course I had get a slice of the pizza (Along with a small Thai Salad that featured a giant shrimp springroll… NUM!!) and I found it very nice! Not exactly the best of it’s type (recently we’ve been on a bit of Pizza kick here in L.A.) but the crust was nice and crisp. Charry in bits, flavorful. All in all, I was horribly impressed and jealous because the best lunch option I have at work is Rubios…

Anyway, after Lunch, P. and the crew had to get back to the theatre. I spent the rest of my day exploring Berkeley… I had one of the best Chais of my life at the Berkeley Bowl after visiting the Lace Museum. I tried to find ici, but was TOTALLY on the wrong street… Of course, I did the girly thing and headed down to 4th street for some shopping! At the end of this long trek, I made my way to Viks Chaat House

Located off a small residential street in a warehouse, this place reminded me a bit of the corner store by my grandmothers house… but as you can see from the glow of the sweets case you can clearly make out across the street… you instantly know that its so much more…

Walking in, the place was bustling… cooking working in the kitchen… a big menu hung on the wall…

I decided I just wanted some snacky things, So I ordered Samosas and an Aloo Tikki. Then the cashier asked me for $10! I was a bit floored… a meal like this in little India would be $6 bucks TOPS!! Yeesh… all of a sudden the magic of the place seemed to dim a little bit..,

But then my order came up... and I realized… I wasn’t getting snacks… I was getting MEALS. The I got two Samosas along with a wonderful chickpea stew…

And the Tikkis were equally huge…

The Tikkis were good. Nice thick pancakes and the cholle was also a nice balanced flavor. Really helped make the dish… The Cholle was also basically what I got with the Samosas, which helped because although the filling looked absolutely beautiful, I found the Samosas a little on the bland side (The Samosas at my favorite place is really aggressively spiced). Needless to say, I was a happy stuffed girl at the end of the meal…

As the night time fell, I headed back to catch the show. It was a blast and we all went out to Triple Rock to celebrate the great performance. They had a few wonderful ciders…Yum! And to soak up the booze, for a midnight snack we went to Top Dog right by the campus! I had a great snappy frank which honestly was the perfect way to end such a day full adventures…

Just one day in… and I was already SO happy to be back…

  1. Thanks. I alway wondered about the food at Pixar since the food in the area is limited. If you are in that area again, Arizmundi is a good bakery.

Vik's ... from what I've read ... is better to hit on the weekend.
