Where to buy really fresh clams?

I've had a urge to make steamed clams lately. Anyone have a recommendation for where to buy really good fresh clams?

I usually buy them at Citarella and have always been happy with them.

Me too. The cockles at Citarella are amazing for spaghetti with clams.

Yes - that is usually what I buy, and for the same purpose. I buy sea food pretty much every week from Citarella, and don't think I've ever been disappointed. Oh - maybe with some skate once, but I may well have not cooked it quickly enough after buying it.

All seafood from the Lobster Place (chelsea market or bleecker street) is generally fantastic. Their clams have always been good and had great oysters and sushi from them yesterday.

they often have clams at the fish stand at the Farmer's Market in Union Square.

Thank you! Actually, to reply to my own question, I found some great clams this past Saturday at the Tribeca greenmarket at the Blue Moon Fish stand. (I believe he said they were at Union Sq. on Wednesdays, but I'm not certain). They had a great fish selection, mostly caught off Long Island, though I pretty much zeroed in on the clams.

They had both steamers and clams available, and I bought two dozen clams for $9. Delicious steamed with garlic and white wine!
