Recs in La Crosse, WI?

Hi folks,

I'm going to be in La Crosse for a few days, and I don't want to miss anything truly special and wonderful--any recommendations? I'm mostly interested in cheap to midpriced restaurants and single-item type places (e.g. great donuts, burgers). The only higher-end restaurants I'd be interested in would be if there's a place with really great local produce and high-quality, well-raised meats--you probably get the idea. Not trying to sound picky, just trying to provide some structure to the request.

Also, any great coffee shops?

A short drive from La Crosse would be fine too.

Thanks!

  1. I just saw a thread about some good places near La Crosse. Now, where was it? Oh yeah - here it is!

A great report on Lanesboro-area chow from The Dairy Queen:

The Harmony House, in particular, sounds like it's worth the drive to Harmony, MN. For the sour cream raisin pie. A whole one.

And here are some older threads on dining in La Crosse:

I second the recommendation for Edwardo's Pizza Wagon. My wife and I cannot pass up the opportunity to dine there whenever we are in the neighborhood. Also, they offer a happy hour every night of the week if you arrive before 6pm and after 4pm.
