Wine Classes in Chicago?

  • 4

I'm looking for a wine class to give to my daughter and her friend as a gift. Was hoping for Bin Wine Cafe, but they do not offer classes. Bin 36 does, but they won't resume until the fall and I was hoping for something over the summer. Does anyone know of any laid-back type wine bar/restaurant, preferably on the north side that offers a fun beginning wine course??

Thanks!

  1. I've heard good things about http://www.wineschool.com

Also, Webster Wine Bar has monthly tastings. They aren't classes per se, but they are fun and you learn about a particular region or grape. http://www.websterwinebar.com

    1. The Chopping Block offers wine classes and is currently running a Sommelier Series. It's not a bar/restaurant but top somms from some of the best restaurants from around the city are teaching - plus they're young and, yes, laid-back. http://www.thechoppingblock.net/

      1. Just Grapes has an excellent set of wine tasting and education courses, in fact they call it the "wine school":

        1. The Alliance Francaise (Dearborn and Chicago) has a French Wine Course starting next Wednesday (June 20). It's being presented by Patrick Fegan, if I'm not mistaken, and he's supposed to be a star. Six classes which can be taken separately or together--$60 each. Classes on the Loire, Alsace, Rhone, Burgundy, Bordeaux and Champagne.
