Surfas update?

  • 6

Anyone know the status on Surfas (i.e. are they staying or going)? Pardon me if there's a post on this already, I couldn't find it.

  1. I just went there on Sunday - they are there. Are there any other kitchen supply stores that you have been to in LA or OC?

Star in Van Nuys is a restaurant supply stoer. Better prices than Sur La Table or William sonoma, but it has stuff for actual restaraunts, so does not have all the gourmet food treats.

Star is expensive. Try Charlie's Fixtures on Venice near Western. No gourmet, just hardcore restaurant/cooking equipment. It's down and dirty, but good prices. Also, if you can get a membership to Restaurant Depot..the prices on their equipment are very good.

Not too sure re. Restaurant Depot ( a.k.a. Jetro )
Better prices sometimes at these two, which are membership-free!

Restaurant Depot you have to have a business license or letter from a non-profit organization authorizing you to shop for them.

Depending on what you're looking for there are cash & carry restaurant supply places around downtown LA. Place like the Dish Factory in the toy district of downtown has new and used restaurant supplies.
Note these places aren't your foo-foo kind of places like Surfas, Sur La Table or Williams & Sonoma.

        2. I am sure this will be deleted, but the Main store is okay, it is one of the warehouses, the City won. Surfas is trying to figure out how they will make it work, this was told to me around February.
