Pescheria Report (long)
Pescheria, out in Noe Valley, was a great new find for us. We love seafood, and they know how to please! Thanks to their full bar, we enjoyed two perfectly concocted Bombay Sapphire martinis while perusing their small but complete menu. My DH started with wonderfully tender grilled Monterey Bay calamari, served in a warm coriander/ lemon sauce. My oysters on the half shell with a zippy mignonette appeared to have been harvested just minutes before. His zupa de mer arrived in a hot terrine; it was a rich soup/stew full of seafood and vegetables...we used our bread to scoop up the last delicious drop! My plate of squid ink pasta, with clams and mussels, was full of flavor and also a feast for the eyes. The pasta was slightly chewy, and coated nicely with a deeply flavored sauce.
With our espresso we couldn't resist tiramisu. Served simply in a glass dish, it was fantastic - warm, creamy, with a coffee caramel sauce. A nice portion for two.
After a perfectly-paced, well-served early dinner, we hopped back on the J Church and went on to Davies Hall, where we were served a duet by none other than Michael Tilson Thomas (on piano) and Alexander Barantschik (on his Guarnarius violin) - followed by an outstanding performance of Mahler's #7. Great food, great music - what an evening!
My first review on Chowhound. Sorry, I completely neglected to note prices. Our dinner, with two cocktails, tax and tip, was $116.
