I know... not the best choices, but we need Chinese within walking distance for an event and these are the two that qualify. A party of about 10 people. Chinese parents. Any help is appreciated such as recomendations on what to order at the restaurant you would opt for.

Thanks!

i've been to both and would vote for Hop Li.... on santa monica blvd i assume (west LA). jin jiang seems less authentic IMO.

Well, it would actually have to be the one on Pico. Still stand? Thanks!

I think you're much better off at the Hop Li on Pico. The food at both seems to be the same, but I think the Hop Li on Pico has far better service than the one on SM. We (a party of 6) went to Hop Li on SM about a week ago and I don't think I've ever experienced such bad service. The waiter was very sweet but he was in way over his head due to his very limited English. As a result we received food we did not order, did not receive food we had ordered, and had to ask for our drinks about five times before they finally came. The manager had to take over waiting on the large party seated next to us because the waiter was so overwhelmed. In contrast, we had excellent service for a party of 14 at HL on Pico.

What about Hop woo on olympic and Sepulveda. They don't have the 6.99 lobster special anymore though.

@ Hop Li, the (spicy?) fish fillet with black bean sauce is good. so is the honey walnut shrimp and the spicy braised string beans. i've never really been disappointed with anything on their menu, so i don't think you could go wrong.
