Good eats on Portuguese Coast?

timita Jun 11, 2007 04:51 AM

In a couple of weeks I'm going to Praia da Vieira (about halfway in between Lisboa and Porto), close to Leiria / Coimbra / Nazaré, and am wondering if there are any really marvelous restaurants and/or local specialties I should check out. Also if there's a seafood market / hookup to buy fresh seafood or Bacalau that can't be missed. I'm more than anything looking for something close to the beach, but if anyone has stellar suggestions for Lisboa or Porto, I'm sure we'll make a day trip or two. I appreciate any help y'all can give me, have a lovely day!

We spent a day in Nazare and decided to return after we fell in love with this town. There are nice fish restaurants everywhere but we discovered a great one the last night after consulting the guy who sold us ice cream cones. It is at the end of the boardwalk by the tram up the cliff. I think it is called Santa Maria. After three nights of eating at other restaurants, this one had the best cockles (berberejos or something like that) and fish. You'll see lots of Portuguese families there.
