Il Capriccio is the best pizza I've found in the area.

That said, there is room for improvement. They have all the basic ingredients to be a fantastic pizzeria: a wood fired oven, a thin-crust pizza, and good quality toppings. But the pizza comes out too chewy: your jaw muscles are sore after a few slices. They may be using too high gluten content flour, or perhaps are over-working the dough. The crust is often burned on the bottom. As a final peeve, they slice their mushrooms too thickly; they should be credit-card thin and cover the whole surface.

As it is, this is a really good place, but with a few well thought-out changes it could be really something.

Have you tried the one with the shitake mushrooms? It was pretty awesome, and I've never had a burned crust. You're probably right about the chewiness, though.

I had heard Michelangelo's used pre-made pizza crusts so I called them and asked. They said that they used only premade crusts. For that reason I have avoided the place like the plague.

Anyone know if that has changed?

I know that this doesn't answer your question but if you want good pizza in Silver Lake you may want to consider Michelangelo's on Silver Lake Blvd.

I forgot about Michaelangelo's pizza! Thanks for the reminder.

Il Cap -- hands down (including mich -- which we order from all the time). At IC, try the pizza with goat cheese & mozz add mushrooms -- amazing! IMHO, IC has the superior crust & sauce --- though, as I've said here before, their salads are overpriced and boring. They really need to work on that, we've gotten to a point where we have to pre-plan getting a salad elsewhere like TJ's.
