Loved this place.
Service- warm, informed, casual...
room-cozy, nicely panelled light wood... great
food-all good
toasts-manchego cheese and honey simple and delicious
head on shrimp-special of the day-cooked well, juicy, firm, not mushy
sweetbread and mushroom-great texture, earthy flavor--- loved this dish
egg shooter-egg with tangy peppers.. simple, but again fresh and very good
drink-i had a good german lager several times over :)(can't recall the name), my date had a creative "3 glass" sampling of sauvignon blanc she liked
dessert wine-pear sparkling cider-recommended to me. smooth, not too sweet, very pleasing
Dessert-moist, succulent bread pudding with creme anglaise

other features i liked
cheese drawer under the bar... very cool (they have cheese tastings)
daily specials
they use blue ribbon bread....
the bathroom is concealed by the back wall.. almost like a secret, trap door.. cool

it's a good trip all around...

I also really enjoyed eating/drinking at Downing Street. Their wine selections were great, and I like the tasting option. Everything we ordered to eat was fantastic, aside from the head-on-shrimp. Our order happend to be a bit mushy.

This place is fantastic. We ended up trying it one evening because Ino (around the corner) couldn't accomodate us, but it has become our new favorite wine bar. The service is friendly, casual and very knowledgeable. Atmosphere relaxed, subdued with great tunes.

We tried an amazing white from the Basque region (can't remember the name) that the server spent a lot of time discussing with us. We've also done the three glass tasting flights which are really enjoyable.

As for the food, I love their toasts, cheeses and egg shooters. If you frequent the Blue Ribbon market expect some similar ingredients (although much expanded choices). Our favorite cheese was a special on the menu that was some sort of fresh mozzarella filled with cheese curds, and served with their mexican honey. It was amazing and light. A favorite salad on the menu is one with smoked trout, bibb lettuce, boiled potatoes, and maybe some olives or capers: overall a delicious combination.

I definitely recommend this place. (although I hate to see it get swamped like Ino!) :)

The food is very reasonable but the wine, although amazing, is not. Wines by the glass range from $14 - 30, I think. Still worth it. I thought it was great. There was a delicious butternut squash and arugula salad that Ive been thinking about for the last few weeks. Also, some sort of deviled egg concotion on toast that was great. Our total bill for 2 ppl with a couple glasses of wine and a couple of small plates of food was $150 with tip. Pricey but good.

Oh, and i really liked the creamy cheese from Texas. Or maybe it was New Mexico.
