Family eateries in Santa Monica this Sunday?
Any suggestions for places to bring extended family for late lunch/early dinner this Sunday?
We're going to be near SaMo High (6th & Pico) and will have both kids under 10 and grandparents w/mobility issues, with folks in between, So we'll need somewhere near, comfortable, and able to feed/deal with kids. Plus, we've got health issues to deal w/too, so healthy options are a bonus.
Obviously, yummy would be good, but to be honest, b/c of these other restrictions, I'll take anything I can get. (Am I being a disloyal chowhound?!)
Thanks a lot.

Second the rec for Fritto Misto esp b/c you can sub veggies for pasta in the pasta dishes and do everything without oil or added salt.
I think Newsroom Cafe would also fit the healthy bill.
Jinky's as well as Jack'n'Jill's both certainly can do healthfu, and Jinky's is the more kid-friendly of the two, but I don't know if the SaMo location is open for dinner like the Sherman Oaks location.

re: Emme
I also agree that Fritto Misto is the top choice. Their portions seem more than generous to me at a reasonable price (esp. for the LA-Westside). You might also consider Urth Cafe on Main Street for great organic food (large portions here too) , people-watching, wonderful teas & coffees, and the LA scene vibe.

disloyal would be asking random people on the street as opposed to relying on the wisdom of fellow hounds ;)
'fritto misto' on colorado @ 6th?
i can't attest to the food & have no idea what the atmosphere is like, but there have been quite a few recs on numerous and widely varied posts for it. the location is perfect for you, and it seems they have a menu that can satisfy all palates and health concerns involved. [actually, as a newly-diagnosed celiec, i've been meaning to try it myself because they have a lot of gluten-free options].

re: goodhealthgourmet
Frito Misto is very family friendly and a real neighborhood restaurant with decent food. Lots of pastas where you choose the sauce and the other goodies plus other items as well. I. Cugini on Ocean Avenue has a nice menu as well as a kids one. They also have some big round tables which is nice!!

Yeah, been to fritto misto once, so i had thought of it. good, clean, tasty pastas that you can do up yourself. very sparse furnishings, though (those basic wooden chairs and square tables) will probably not be comfortable enough for most of our party.
totally good for a bunch of middle range age friends though (say teenage to 30s?), so I should definitely make a trip back there soon.
thx.

A few options come to mind: Il Fornaio on Ocean near Colorado, Ocean Avenue Seafood at Ocean and Santa Monica, Houston's at Wilshire and 2nd, and Punch Grill at Wilshire and 30th. I hesitate to mention it but the Daily Grill on Colorado near Cloverfield probably would also work for your needs.

re: New Trial
I'll look them up, thx. I've only been to Il Fornaio before, so I'm kinda guessing the other suggestions will be like that--maybe even a little too "nice" for our crowd?! To be honest, our extendeds usually feel fine at a chain like macaroni grill or even olive garden, so, even though I love em, the extra cost, ambience, and flavor is probably wasted on em.

re: nyctolafoodie
Houston's is a decent chain with pretty good American food and the prices are reasonable. Daily Grill is also a chain with fair to good American fare and moderate prices. Punch Grill is not a chain but also had quite good American food at moderate prices. They should all fall in the same price range as Il Fornaio. Ocean Avenue is somewhat higher end seafood, certainly the priciest of the lot. All of them will be comfortable and have some healthy options on the menu. I have often seen kids at, and even taken kids to, all of them but Punch Grill (not to say it would not welcome kids as well).
