Dinner for B-day
Having trouble deciding between several options for so's b-day in DC after reading reviews here and at yelp. We love mediterrenean, seafood, and asian. Ideally, the restaurant has such a dramatic space one feels transported into another world, attentive not necessarily formal service, and great consistent food. Recently have been to both Zaytinya and Oya and love both of their spaces and food... just want something with a bit more special occasion factor and a night that will linger with us. I'm thinking Asia Nora, Komi or Cityzen but am hesitant with the menu design.
Favorite meals to give an idea....
Social in Miami- delicious tuna and avocado dish/ greek salad/ fun atmosphere
Daniel in NY- the dining room is beautiful and the whole experience is great. Hate that one feels everyone is there for a special occassion or on expense accounts though and it does put a dent in the bank.
Julia's Kitchen in Napa- best chicken I have ever had!
Cyrus in Healdsburg- love the design of the menu... *seamless* service
How about Cafe Atlantico? Certainly a fun atmosphere with great drinks and excellent food. Has that exotic Latin feel to it as well. Depending on how far in advance you are planning you can try to get a seat at Mini Bar...probably one of the most memorable meals in town!
PS7 has more American food but their menu is a lot of fun, their special drinks are some of the best in the city, and the atmosphere is chic and memorable. I was really impressed by the room when I first walked into it. And their tuna sliders are great!
Komi from waht I've seen has a very limited menu design so if you have any sort of picky eaters with you I would go with someplace like CityZen instead. From what I hear you can call ahead and they will make a specialized meny for you.
Another idea is Citronelle of course....quite a memorable meal!
