Best restaurant Costa Mesa (near theater/plaza)

I live in West L.A. and am going to the theater tomorrow night in Costa Mesa. I am not familiar at all with the area. Will be spending the night at the Westin. I would like to go out for a good dinner before the theater. I have reservations at Pinot and at the Club House. Any recommedations? What is the best reataurant in that area?

I second Chat Noir. But for something different, consider Kaisen Sushi. It's a revolving sushi bar. Good, fun and relatively inexpensive.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. It looks like there are a lot of restaurants in that area as we have here in the Westside. Thinking about trying Leatherbys, although I have also been to Roys, Mastro's and Mortons and those would probably work too! The Sushi restaurant suggestion sounds fun but we eat lots of sushi during the week so wanted a bit of a sushi break!!! Anyway, leaving in a few hours for OC...

I forgot about Mastro's. Great choice for steaks.

        Here's my review, if interested:

Dunno about the BEST in the area, but I <3 Turner New Zealand. Their lamb + salmon are top notch.

If you like Persian, you can try Darya which is in the same plaza as Morton's. I love the Eggplant Birani and the Koobideh.

I agree with Leatherby's - Marche Modern is another idea.

What is the name of the theater?

My recommendation is Chat Noir, right near your hotel. It's by the same people who do the French 75 restaurants, but I really really love Chat Noir - have been there many times for their steak frites and great drinks. Great interior and fun too.

I like the Club House, it's not Chowish, but it's pretty good.

My favorite place down there is Roy's, but it's expensive, and it's more near Fashion Island, and your hotel is by South Coast Plaza. I think it's worth the drive though. There's a Roy's in downtown LA now, but I don't know if it's as good...

At the other end of South Coast Plaza there is a Morton's. Classic steak place, great if you love meat. You can also try Mastro's for steak, it is close to the Westin as well. But for pre-show goodness, I'm sure you'll be happy with Leatherby's Cafe Rouge. http://www.patinagroup.com/cafeRouge/

I'm thinking Leatherby's would be the best. It's inside the Segerstrom Hall.
