Goin' Downtown (LA) for b-day dinner

nishi Jun 8, 2007 02:31 PM

I need recommendations for a birthday dinner with 6-8 people in Downtown LA on a Thursday night. I don't want anyplace too high maintenance. Casual, fun, and of course, good is what I'm looking for. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I'd probably go with Ciudad. Very fun hip atmosphere, you can share a bunch of small plates or order from the regular entree menu. Great drinks.

I second Ciudad. They have great happy hour specials, so if you can get there from 4 to 7:00 p.m., there are great deals on appetizers in the bar and on sangria and mojitos. You can sit out in the patio for great downtown view also.

A couple of suggestions just west of downtown--Blue Velvet and Royale.

Izayoi, very good izakaya. Would be a great place for a group as everyone can sample a lot of things.

I'm surprised Roy's Fusion hasn't been already recommended. I personally love the food and the service isn't all that bad either.

Definitely Ciudad - it's festive and perfect for a lighthearted, unrestrained birthday celebration. Outside patio is fab. Excellent mojitos!
