Vegetarian eateries for a birthday dinner

I'm taking a friend of mine out to dinner next week and she happens to be a vegetarian. It's her birthday so I wanted to take her to a decent place with a wine list. Anywhere in LA will be okay. Preferably, in the West LA or Downtown areas.

It doesn't have to be an exclusive vegetarian restaurant. Just a place that has enough meatless entrees on the menu to do the trick. I was considering Roy's in Downtown LA from personal experiences but I don't know if there are enough veggie choices for her.

Thank you!

  1. Go to Rahel Vegetarian in Little ethiopia.

You can Bring your own wine for now corkage. Zero, Sip, Nada on corkage. Good Food, affordable, exotic and bring your own bottle!

    1. If you're on the westside and you want something nice (and are willing to make a little trek), I would suggest Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon. The menu is mostly vegetarian, with some meat items, but the veggie options feature some of best meat substitute dishes I've ever had. And I'm a vegetarian, so I've had them all.

Also an excellent wine list featuring a lot of organic wines.

      1. If you don't want to spend the money on Inn of the Seventh Ray (my first pick), consider heading over to Madeleine Bistro in Tarzana.

Other options might include Grace (veggie tasting menu), Newsroom Cafe, M Cafe de Chaya, or The Ivy (grilled veggie salad!!)

        1. I guess I should re-vise my original post and narrow the locations down to West LA, the Venice Beach area or Downtown LA, respectively. Nothing worse than driving in traffic for over an hour or more just to eat; especially on ones birthday.

I don't need (or want) an exclusively vegetarian (much less vegan) restaurant. After all, I need options as well. Been to The Inn/Ray and the setting is gorgeous but I wasn't particularly impressed with the cuisine.

I've never been but how about The Border Grill in Santa Monica?

          Thanks again!
