Pasta Carbonara

I went to Vapiano last night and had a truly so-so bowl of pasta carbonara.

Now I'm insterested in getting the real thing of this so-far-from-healthy delicious dish! So who in DC does this best??

  1. If Alexandria counts, Trattoria da Franco on Washington Street in Old Town makes the best I've had in the area. I've been there only once, and the service was bad and the atmosphere just kind of weird, but I plan to go back for the carbonara.

        It wasn't was so-so.

I also think I had an exstremly inexperienced cook making the dish. The manager was standing next to him the whole time (while I was standing in front waiting for the dish) telling him everything he was doing wrong and how he should correct it the next time. One would have thought that he would have scratched what he was making me and started over again with his new found knowledge. :)

So it wasn't terrible...I just know carbonara can be done better and I'm looking for that place.

Btw, I would like to return to Vapiano and try some of their other pastas. The concept is cool and they have a large area for outdoor seating and its right near my I plan on returning.

What other pastas are good there?

          1. EWWWW - Vapiano?

Pasta Mia - Best Carbonara in the City or anywhere I have ever had it.

Line up early because if you arent in line by 630 when they open the doors you will be waiting for a while.

I won't go into my usual pasta mia rant, but that place is just a nightmare IMHO. I think the food is grossly overrated...but I know I am in the minority there...but even if they were serving the best pasta and sauces I ever had, and even if I still lived close by, I would not put up with the hassle and service to eat there.
