New Haven- Soulfood and BBQ ?

Where do you go and what is the item to order?

There are 2 places I know of. Sandra's is on Whitney between Grove and Trumbull. Been there a few times, Fried chicken is good as is the catfish, and the okra.Collards. Mac and cheese was not so great.
There is another palce on Whalley (take out only) Only tried the fried chicken but it was good. The fish joint next door is also good

Is that Uncle Willy's maybe? In a little strip next to a veterinarian and across from a laundromat? If so, they used to have a place in Orange -- great BBQ (in my totally New England-raised, not really knowing true BBQ opinion).

I had forgotten about Uncle Wille's. The ribs are good there. The place I was thing of is on the corner of Ellsworth and Whalley.

FYI - Uncle Willies is closed in Orange. I think they still have their original restaurant near Waterbury (I could be wrong on the town name)
