Jumbo Empanada

After reading about this place many times, I decided to check it out.
Their Salad for $3.99 was an entire meal...a huge bowl of greens, with
huge chunks of avocado, thinly sliced tomoto and onion and just enough
dressing.
I had to take home my veggie empanada coz I was too full.
Who else makes a similiar empanada?...curious now to go on an "empanada" competition.LOL

El Gordo's - el salvadorean empanadas across the street. It's the one with a million varieties...
I like trying a new kind everytime I'm in the market.

At last count, somewhere around 40 varieties, hugely inexpensive. Somewhere around 1.50 to 2 per empanada. Same family as the good folks from Segovia Meats next door, who do the multuple varieties of fresh (uncooked) chorizo and adobo marinated meats. My favourite chorizos are the Guatemalan.

As professor plum mentioned, El Gordo's is almost directly across Augusta from Jumbo. That's just north of Baldwin, on the west side, by the way.

Try the place directly across the street from Jumbo Empanada. I can't remember the name off hand. It isn't a restaurant but does serve a variety of warm empanada's. They are quite a bit smaller but also quite good. I really like the spinach and ricotta ones.
