Fresh Masa in TO area???

Does anyone know where I would be able to find Fresh Masa anywhere in the GTA? I am dying to make some tamales and refuse to use Maseca...I would appreciate any help. Besides, after seeing the blog on the Mexican market, I don't feel so alone now. It would be nice to know that there are many more people that are suffering...what can I say, Misery Loves Company ;-)

  1. No hay. Get out your metate, pobrecita, because that's what you'll need for fresh masa in TO.There's just no demand/infrastructure for the sort of tortilla factories I knew in Phoenix. This may change but I don't know any place now where fresh is available. I love green corn tamales but have to wait for trips to Arizona to indulge. Still, there is OK bagged masa around like La Meji brand I get at my No Frills in Mississauga. It's distributed by SCNM Global Traders. Post again if you get lucky!

so i have asked around a bit, and i have two possible sources -- one is a stand at the evergreen brickworks. the deal is you have to call in advance, and must purchase i think minimum of 1lb, which makes a lot of tortillas.

the second is la tortilleria on st clair, in the mornings until they run out.

note that i have not yet purchased from either source, but have been told at both locations that it is available. am eager to give it a whirl.
