Steakhouse near Greenbelt?

Eric likes to eat Jun 7, 2007 02:01 PM

In town on business and looking for a good steak near Greenbelt. I am willing to go into DC but would like to avoid that tonight if possible. Preferences: great steak, nice atmosphere, someplace where I might find a "dinner friend" to talk to rather than my book, and within 30 miles. Thanks in advance...

hmmm, can't think of any steakhouses in Greenbelt. If you don't want to travel into DC, closest would probably be to go into Montgomery Co (Bethesda, Silver Spring). Are you looking for a local place to get a steak, or an actual steakhouse chain like RC, Mortons? Annapolis is a bit further, but perhaps better for atmosphere (closer to your 30 miles).

I actually don't mind a chain but I do prefer local establishments. My main desire is for a really great steak. All the other items are bonus in my opinion. Thank you for your reply.

Take the Metro to Silver Spring or the Beltway west around to Colesville Rd, head toward DC and look for Rays the Classics on the right at 8606 Colesville in downtown Silver Spring. Grab a seat in the bar.

              tfbrennan...
Outstanding suggestion! The food and staff were great and the deal unbelieveable. I sat in the bar and had the chopsteak special for $15 including salad and two sides. The meal was complemented by a great "dirty" martini as well as a glass of wine. I would recommend this spot to anyone.

Head up Rt. 29 north to 216 west. A new area called Maple Lawn has a steakhouse (oz. Chophouse and a nice seafood restaurant named Trapeze). They both have a very nice casual feel and I always eat at the bar at oz - I eventually meet very interesting people there.

I'd find it hard to bring myself to go to a place called "Maple Lawn". :-)

The neighborhood is Maple Lawn, not the restaurant.

Yes, I was referring to the neighborhood.

Thanks, I'll have to give this one a try next time in town.

Ray's in Silver Spring. There is nothing else in Monkey or PG. Try the pan fried chicken too!

The fried chicken left the menu many months ago, unfortunately.
