Speed's - a first timer's report
The background. For year's I've been trying to get a Speed Dog. And for years, I've been foiled. Rain. Or no Speed. Or more rain. And the time I was three people from the counter when a work emergency killed the dream ...
So you can imagine the delight when work unexpectedly took me south of town for a mid-morning meeting and brought me back up I-93 to the Mass. Ave. exit at 12:15 with no responsibilities until mid-afternoon. Kismet!
The scene: A dozen men (all men), mainly blue collar workers and truck drivers in line. Slight overcast gave way to beautiful sun and pefect San Diego 70-degree weather.
The wait: 15 minutes. One person in line commented this was a new record for Speed's.
The Dog: Everythiung but relish. The dog felt more like a sub, which was a great thing. The toppings were so juicy - thank goodness I was forewarned to lean my chin away from my body while eating. The dog was perfect for a all beef style pup and the toppings went well together - especially the blend of sweet sauce and smoky chili, with the slight tang of the sweet onions. The lone, teensy pick I had was the mustard, which did not add a lot of flavor.
The verdict: What's not to like? I left with my belly full and my taste buds satisfied. Just like Sullivan's & Simcos, Speed's is a must for every person who loves a good hot dog.

Good for you.
I wish he has a smaller dog and charge me less. It is not I don't like it but it is a bit too big for me where I have to force myself to finish it.

15 minutes is definitely NOT a record. I've only been there maybe 3 times...? The first time I think I waited close to a half an hour for my dog. Don't get me wrong; totally, 100% worth it. But in all respects (including this one) Speed's is definitely NOT fast food....:)

I thought he meant it the other way: that this was the fastest the line had ever moved. 15 minutes with 12 people ahead of you? The line doesn't move that fast at McDonalds!

You are right Barney. The process was 'faster' than usual according to the repeat visitor.

If you had a tie on, you should of had Speed cut it off your neck you when you were finished eating it.
