My family is coming to visit us in Canton for my parents' 35th anniv. and my brother's 30th birthday. I'm new to the neighborhood and I'd like to take them out to dinner (great food, good service, nice ambience- in that order) but my father doesn't eat red meat or dairy. They're coming from CA and the "food is a little heavy" comment about Charleston gave me pause. (As did the "service is horrible" comments about Black Olive and Kali's Court). Any suggestions would be helpful and gratefully accepted.

I had the same misgivings regarding The Black Olive...but when I took my Mom for her 81st birthday everthing went great. I made a reservation via Opentable and noted that Mom couldn't do stairs....they were very accomadating. Service was excellent, food was great. Thet even had a small gift for Mom. And Mom wants to go back as soon as possible....

I love Tio Pepe - they have great fish - shrimp in garlic is an outstanding appetizer. Pazza Luna just reopened in Locust Point - Italian in a cute row house. We are trying Salt tonight - I heard it is great.
