In Search of BEST HAPPY HOUR FOOD

Hello Hello my fellow Chowhounders,

I am in search of the best happy hour food for the price. In other words, best bang for your buck. Anywhere in San Francisco would be fine, any style of cuisine, and would like a pretty cool atmosphere. Look forward to your recommendations. You never let me down.

Sincerely,
AmbianceMe

Tokyo Go Go has $3 hand rolls, and $2 sake for happy hour.

This is a really depressing subject because its just not part of the SF bar culture. I've seen some snacks at Sugar Lounge and on Tuesdays (I think ) at the Hidden Vine, but that's about it. Try this: http://happy-hour.com/search.asp

Maybe not narrowing it down to bars ... though it is East Bay, T-Rex has inspired me on a potential happy hour crawl. That site hardly covers everything

In SF some places on my list
        - McCormick and Kuleto's ... yeah its a chain, but there was a positive report on their $1.99 burgers ... Spengers in Berkeley has the same deal
        - Palio D'asti - with two drinks ... free whole pizza
        - Hog Island - $1 oyster special ... I forget the night
        - Schroeders - I believe there is free eats on Friday night.

I'm sure there's more. Those are the only ones that caught my attention.

Hog Island's happy hour is Monday and Thursday from 5-7. In addition to the $1 oysters, beer is, I think, $3 a pint. I second that recommendation--good deal on great shellfish with a view!

Bong Su at 3rd and Folsom has 1/2 priced appetizers after work. Nice atmosphere.

The Tonga Room in the Fairmont Hotel has a Polynesian Happy Hour buffet. It is $8 with the purchase of a cocktail and it represents some real bang for your buck. Think all-you-can-eat pork spareribs, crab rangoon, and mushroom eggrolls. Beer starts at $5, cocktails at $7 or so.
