Favorite Fancy Japanese in Tokyo

Hello. I'm living/working in Tokyo for the summer and looking for a celebration place that serves amazing Japanese food. Among others, I've looked at:

Okabe (from the Times article), Kadowaki, Ishikawa, Kikuyoshi and other highly rated places.

Any ideas?

  1. I guess Tokyo Chowhound is not very most of the major cities the hounds would take that bait in 5 minutes. Come on! A chance to recommend your favorite expensive place!

    1. It's not terribly expensive and I don't know if it's your idea of a 'celebration place' but I love Banrekiryukodo (usually called simply Banreki) in Azabu-Juban (website is

Beautiful space, outstanding food, the proprietor is also your host and server.

      1. I think one of the reasons no one is biting is because it's such a wide playing field. I mean, you can drop 30,000 on sushi in almost any non-kaiten sushi joint in the city. It's not difficult to find expensive food in Tokyo!

That said, I worked in Ginza until recently, and a few of the places I appreciated in that part of the city were Kamakura restaurant (, Sakura Ginza (, and Takenori Hyaku-Monogatari

        Hope those links work!

If they aren't expensive enough for you, I'd check with the hotel concierge. She or he will likely send you to Kyubei.

Good luck finding a pricey meal in Tokyo!
