Looking for Mexican and good drinks with outdoor seating

otl Jun 4, 2007 01:17 PM

I know my request is a little specific but I'm sure there are plenty of places like this, just looking for a good one. I'm going to happy hour Thursday with friends and would like to find a Mexican restaurant with good food, outdoor seating, and reasonably priced food and drinks. East Village would work, as would many other locations. Sangria would be a big plus but I would say the outdoor seating and reasonable prices are most important. Thanks

It would seem the consensus on this board for Agave is "drinks only." I'm not speaking for Chowhound, but if you do a search on Agave you'll find a number of threads. Dos Caminos Soho has good outdoor seating. I haven't been to that location, but I've been to the other two. (Park/Flatiron, Midtown)... the food is only average.

I've always enjoyed the food at Dos Caminos...but yes I enjoy the drinks more. The outdoor seating there is perfect!

Agave is tons of fun for food and drinks...

Never been to Tortilla Flats...but my friend went for a bachelorette party and hard a great time...drinks were strong!

Dos Caminos is overpriced and mediocre, in my opinion.

Just went for my birthday. My friends ordered a whole roast pig in advance, but the rest of the food is fine and yummy watermelon margaritas!!

Thanks for the advice. I think its between Agave and Dos Caminos (soho). I was just looking at Agave's "Sunset" menu and its looks like they have some nice snack options. If anyone can think of anything else please don't forget to post!

i'll throw in my 2 cents, a lot of people have negative things to say about agave aside from their drinks but i have had many enjoyable casual nights out there with friends, mostly meeting a girlfriend after work for a couple drinks and a bite.
And a lot of people say negative things about dos caminos - it tends to get expensive, but they have great drinks and I have also had a number of excellent meals there too.

Mexican seems to be one of those types of food that nobody in this city agrees on. I don't think i've seen a thread that is majority positive on any mexican, unlike some of the popular italian or french places that get mentioned a lot on this board.

I tend to agree with you on agave, and it does seem like mexican is a volatile subject!
