East Village dinner with mom

Going to dinner with mom and dad tonight. My plan was for Tigerland - that's a good location and price point, and I love the food - but it's closed on Mondays! Looking for similar location (anywhere in the e.v.) and price, pretty open to type of food - but no italian or sushi. Also, my mom likes to try places that are a little "different" - ie food that she can't easily get in the 'burbs. Any ideas?

I'll throw Soba Koh into the mix, if you all like soba. Pylos is delightful, though. I like to go to the Caracas Arepa Bar for weekday lunches. I tend to find it too crowded at dinner, and you probably won't want to wait on line with your mother.
