East Village dinner with mom

deeg Jun 4, 2007 11:53 AM

Going to dinner with mom and dad tonight. My plan was for Tigerland - that's a good location and price point, and I love the food - but it's closed on Mondays! Looking for similar location (anywhere in the e.v.) and price, pretty open to type of food - but no italian or sushi. Also, my mom likes to try places that are a little "different" - ie food that she can't easily get in the 'burbs. Any ideas?

I'll throw Soba Koh into the mix, if you all like soba. Pylos is delightful, though. I like to go to the Caracas Arepa Bar for weekday lunches. I tend to find it too crowded at dinner, and you probably won't want to wait on line with your mother.

Prune, Momofuku Ssam Bar, Momofuku Noodle Bar, maybe Caracas Arepas Bar? Grand Sichuan St Marks? Village Yokocho? Bao 111? Pylos? Vanel on First?

I second Pylos. Good fare and pretty setting.
