Great cheese in Bethesda?

Kathi Jun 4, 2007 09:51 AM

My Mom lives in Bethesda and, having grown up in Germany, has a thing for great cheese. Especailly the really pungent (stinky) kind. Whole Foods and Balducci's hasn't done it for her. Any other suggestions?

There is a cheese stand at the women's cooperative farmer's market in downtown Bethesda (7155 Wisconsin NW) that has an incredible variety of cheese's from the local area. They'll let you taste any of them, or all of them.

I think the stand you are talking about is Kensington creamery (or something like that). they only sell their own cheese, but have a small array of different styles. High quality stuff.

We had neighbors from France who said they found their stinky cheese at Trader Joes in Bethesda.

I live just up the road in Potomac, and head to either Cowgirl Creamery (DC) or Cheesetique (Del Ray) for cheese. If you really like the good stuff, those are the places to go and are worth the drive.

I'll second Cheesetique, it is a great place to visit! It's in DelRay, which is a close drive from Old Town Alexandria, both of which are nice places to stroll around!

Are you willing to leave Bethesda? Cowgirl Creamery, near the Portrait Gallery, has an excellent selection. Their employees are really helpful, too.
