Old Dominion Brewery

Has anyone noticed a difference in any of the Old Dominion beers since they were purchased by Anheuser-Busch a few months back?

Personally, I have not noticed any differences. However, I have read on another non-CH dining board that some folks have noticed a drop in quality.

Any thoughts?

  1. I never thought they were all that great. And I know some smaller breweries that farmed their larger batches out to OD and were so disappointed in the consistency that they ended their relationships.

I didn't know OD made beer for other breweries. Just curious...who were the smaller breweries that were disappointed in the consistency at OD?

In Bmore Brewers Art stopped getting their House Pale Ale from OD "forever due to policy changes brought on by the new owners of Old Dominion, who had been making this beer for us since 1999." Also in Bmore the Thirsty Dog gets their beer from OD. I don't know how that relationship is going, but we have notice a change in the beer.

Brewer's Art stopped getting pale ale from OD for other reasons besides the quality of the beer. Thirsty Dog beers have not been made by OD for some time. Thirsty Dog purchased the Claypipe Brewery and has been making beer there for about a year.
Most of the OD brewery staff still works there and they brew on the same system... I don't think the beers have changed that much... at least Tuppers Hop Pocket has not.

And that is about when we started noticing a difference in the beer, thanks for the update on Thirsty Dog.

    2. I have yet to notice any decline in OD's beers. The Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale and Oak Barrel Stout remain tasty. I haven't had the Millennium barleywine recently, so I hope they haven't messed with that.

I've been drinking from a couple of cases of Millenium bottled in early April, and the taste is outstanding. I think they'll remain strong.
