Finally... good tacos in Seattle!
I'm sure someone's posted this before, but for me this place was a revelation, and I just wanted to make sure...
I spend about 4 weeks per year in the Seattle, fattening on your seafood, hiking your trails and paddling on your Sound. I love it up there. (and thank you to the many of you regulars whose recs have led me to the good stuff!) But by the end of each trip, being a California boy, I am jonesing hard for some killer tacos. And despite trying maybe 20 or 30 taco shops in the 15+ years I've been traveling regularly to Seattle, I've never had anything that comes close to satisfying it.
So... on Memorial Day I was driving down Broadway, hungry (of course), thinking about stopping at one of those Pho places. I couldn't find any parking though and, with a few hours to kill before my flight home, thought Oh well, maybe I'll just drive and see where I end up. Next thing I know, I'm on Rainier Ave. Headed into a part of the city I've never been to before. But hey, there's Vietnamese places everywhere... I'm still thinking, Pho, maybe some Bun Bo Hue. But then - what's this, parked under some trees? Hey! A taco truck!
"Tacos El Asadero" written on the side. I thought, hey, what the heck, how bad can it be? And wheeled it on in.
It's more like a taco bus actually - The best part about this place is that it's a friggin bus. I mean the whole thing - they've converted the rear half of the bus to a kitchen and in the front half there's stools and metal counters and it's just COOL.
No, that's not true - the best part about this place is the tacos. I had four - one buche, one birria, one cabeza, and one adobado. Only the cabeza was so-so. The other three were dynamite. Up there with anything I've had in San Diego, LA or Tijuana. Really just wow stuff.
Like I said, I love it up there. I'm already planning my next trip up in August, when the sun's out and the blackberries are ripe. And you bet I'll be down at Tacos El Asadero a few times for some birria and some buche... If you haven't tried this place yet, and you love tacos - go. Today. Heck, right now. You won't be sorry!
