Chinatown tips please for British Honeymooners

My partner and I are honeymooning in California in September. We are visiting San Francisco and thought it would be an experience to eat in Chinatown but there doesn't seem to be many recommendations out there for places to eat.

My partner likes dishes with a little bit of spice such as schezuan and kung po, also a big fan of hot and sour soup. I like most things really but especially curry dishes and I have enjoyed dim sum on the few occasions I have had the chance. We also both love crispy aromatic duck.

San Francisco Chinatown is predominantly Cantonese in origin and population, while many of the dishes you mention represent cuisine of other regions. Cantonese food is typically not spicy at all. This is not to say you won't find hot and sour soup or Kung Pao chicken in S.F. Chinatown, but chances are it won't be very good by local standards. The one notable exception would be Z&Y Restaurant at 655 Jackson St., which serves authentic versions of the spicier cuisines, but which is currently closed for remodeling. It could well be open by September. No problem finding dim sum, though, which is Cantonese in origin. You'll find reference on this board to a number of decent dim sum restaurants in Chinatown including Gold Mountain, City View and Great Eastern.

I think Z&Y is a great choice, as is dim sum in Chinatown at any of the places Chandavkl mentions. It's also worth visiting some of the bakeries in Chinatown.
