German chocolate icing with dates

My grandmothers German chocolate icing recipe was quite old, it contained dates,among other things like coconut ,and pecans,this was like a heavy caramel,and unlike another G.C. icing i have ever had,is anyone out there familiar with a recipe like this?, i have searched this site, and others without any luck, i would love to have this recipe again, thank you.
