Anyone been? I heard it's a BYO and it's on the north end of the boardwalk in Ocean Grove. Tried googling it with no success. Anyone have any information on it? Thank you.

  1. They are forever advirtised in the Asbury Park Press on the weekends. Their ad drives me crazy because they want you to believe a food critic is reviewing the place, when actually, it is a paid ad. The place was once called Ott's Family Restaurant. I have never eaten there because the menu is basically the same as any diner.

Who knows, maybe the food is good? I just don't like menus with 500 items on it.

Last year, when it was Ott's, I ate there twice. Breakfast buffet was fine. We went for dinner one night to sit in an ocean-facing booth and watch a major storm on the beach. I can't remember what anyone ate (it was a helluva storm) but the food wasn't bad for diner food.

I was taken in by Theo's newspaper ad and my husband and I went there with another couple for dinner in the spring, before the summer crowds. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. The menu was huge-typical diner fare and it was basically ho-hum. I got chicken parm which tasted like it was covered with ketchup sauce and rubber cheese on a bed of undrained pasta.

      2. We went to Theo's this past Friday. Where to start... they served our bruschetta without bread and then had to confirm that it indeed came with bread. They served my wife spinach mango salad with rock solid, frozen mangos. They served my pork chop raw and cold in the middle. When we complained to the manager, he offered to recook the pork chop but offered no apology for screwing up every part of our order. At least he didn't make us pay for the drinks when we walked out. It is the only time I've ever walked out of a restaurant. But hey, the view is awesome.

Is this restaurant owed by the same people that own the Theo's on LBI?

          1. re: Babs16

            yes, same people as LBI

I took my father and great uncle there for Fathers Day breakfast buffet and I didn't eat because they had run out of nearly everything, lines were long (I got there 10 minutes late) - dad and uncle got 1 omelette and some sausages...$9 for nothing...

It's an absolute disgrace and they should not be allowed to falsely advertise all you can eat with the lack of food it should be "every man for himself"

Yes, for some reason nothing seems to last in that location. Seems to change hands seasonally. Its been something new for the past 3-4 years.

        2. I think it has closed down.

SQQ - You are correct, it has closed down - Does anyone know the reason, other than the obvious ones that are posted here?

Pasted Theo's in Beach Haven Sat night and it was bumping. I Iheard that they have a Sunday brunch, anyone been?

Theo's closed due to very poor management. I know college students that worked there and they were not paid all summer. Parents finally got involved and he finally came through with $$$$ to pay them and closed the restaurant. Very shady situation, sounds like the LBI shop is not much better...
