apricot almond french toast at square one
three thick cut beautifully caramelized slices of the fluffiest most buttery brioche imaginable saturated in an ethereal batter topped with a cascade of juicy, tart warm apricots, maple syrup, and a fat quenelle of rich vanilla cream finished with a sprinkle of chopped toasted almonds.
it was a perfect balance of textures and flavors - creamy, crunchy, brioche like buttery cotton candy, and then the play of sweetness and plump tart fruit - i could eat this every day for a week. we almost ordered another plate, considering that the normally stellar smoked salmon benedict was completely unbalanced with a prevalent sharp note due to an overabundance of frisee and pickled onion and overly lemony hollandaise.
but do go back for that french toast...easily one of the finest dished i've ever eaten. i curse the mercilessly brief apricot season .
