Looking for Mexican fare near Nassau border (Floral Park, Elmont area)

Just moved to the area from Southern California and am absolutely CRAVING some decent Mexican fare. I seem to be surrounded by nothing but Italian places. Any suggestions welcome!!

  1. As an Atlanta native, I feel your pain. Give El Coyote at try--in the summer you can sit out back on their patio, drink a fresh margarita, and almost imagine you're on the west coast (almost). It's definitely in Queens, but you can take Hillside Avenue straight there. The made-fresh-at-the-table guacamole alone is worth the trip.

Ok, fresh margaritas and guacamole are haunting my dreams as of late.

      What is the price range?

If you're still craving, the guacamole al molcajete (made fresh at your table) will set you back only $7.95. I'm not sure about the price on the margaritas...I've been known to drink enough to dull my math skills by the time the check arrives.

    2. Do you want "cheap" or higher end. in Roslyn is excellent.

There's also a number of the passable chains (gasp) like Baja Fresh in New Hyde Park and Syosset and Chipotle in Carle Place, Uniondale, and Hicksville.

You can also take a jaunt to Northern Blvd in Corona...near Shea Stadium...for a large Mexican section.

There's also Green Cactus Grill...a bunch on LI...Garden City Park is closest to you.

      AOL City Guide...
      Zagat, too, I suppose.

How is Green Cactus Grill? Is it similar to Baja Fresh in terms of quality/price?

Thanks so much for the suggestions.

Yes - quality and price is similar. I actually think it's quite good. No delivery, but they make a fine fish taco...chicken good, too. I also like that it's a local, LI "chain."

Not sure where you shop, but the Source Mall (by Fortunoff's on Old Country Rd) has one in their food court...if you're in the area.

BTW, Besito also makes some kick-a** table side guac.

Not to get off topic, but are you looking for anything else other than Mex?

Thanks for the rec. I'll have to check out the Green Cactus Grill this weekend.

Mexican has been my only unsatiated craving thus far. I'll let you know if I think of anything else!
