Ordering Huckleberries?

Does anyone know where I can order frozen huckleberries? I love them and can get them when I visit Washington - but don't know of a mail order source. Thanks!

  1. It's early for huckleberries and they are getting very expensive. When we were in Montana two years ago, they were about $48/gallon.

Most pickers (they are all harvested in the wild by individual pickers) are out there competing with the grizzlies for them, so it's a dangerous business. They are stored or sold frozen for confectioners or bakers at a local level. I googled 'frozen huckelberries' and came up with this:

Good luck--I'm a huckleberry fiend myself!

here's an article about he current craze of restaurant use, from last year at sfgate(sf chronicle online):

i've actually ordered from them in the past - unfortunately, the berries never showed up . . . .

    2. I can't help you with a source, but I can tell you that Rocky Mountain (Idaho/Montana) huckleberries will be better than ones from the coast ranges (Oregon/Washington). For some reason, Idaho berries have more meat on them than the ones from Oregon.
