Where to get Pearl Hot Dogs?

All these hot dog reviews are getting me hungry. But I've never seen Pearl hot dogs in my local supermarkets. Where have you seen them? Would love to give them a try now that grill weather is here!!

Thanks!

  1. I have picked them up at Dom's in Malden. Not cheap but really good.

    1. They're usually sold from the deli case, rather than pre-packaged. Most major supermarket chains have them, I believe.

Agreed. I've found them at the deli counter at both Roche Bros and Stop & Shop.

        BK

      2. I've seen them at Stop & Shop and Shaw's also sells them and they are at the deli counter. Not sure where you live, but Russo's carries Pearl pastrami and corned beef but not their hot dogs.

B J also has Pearl brand 5 lb boxes and I think at the deli counter where they have one.

          1. re: lobster lover

I have seen them prepackaged at Crosby's markets and Market Basket...
I think they were 2.99 for 6 .... and YUMMY on the grill!

            1. re: Diski

If you're further out, Donelan's Supermarket in Acton and Littleton have them.

              1. re: Lilibet

As does, duh, Donelan's in Wayland :-))

          2. re: Velda Mae

The Shaws near central square does not have them, in case anyone goes looking and finds this thread in the future. I'm not even sure the guy knew what I was talking about.

            1. re: jgg13

The one at Packard's Corner does - but only the 1/4 lb "Kountry Klub" variety. They're sold loose (still in strings!) at the deli counter.

              1. re: BobB

Ah, the 1/2# were the ones I was looking for - I had thought those were the Kountry Klubs, but looking at it online it looks as if it isn't directly linked to the size?

                1. re: jgg13

I'm not sure - I've only seen the 1/4 lb Kountry Klubs but it wouldn''t surprise me at all to find they make a larger version.

          3. Market Basket has them too -- make sure you ask for them, the more request the more they'll stock them. They are so fresh that they must be eaten w/in 2-4 days...also McKinnon's in Davis has the large beef franks.

            1. I've seen them at the Arlington Stop and Shop and the Back Bay Shaw's, so I assume a lot of other places have them. They are clearly something that is easy to get for any of the chain's (unlike, say, Saugy's hot dogs), so your usual place can special order them.

              1. I've bought them in Stop & Shop in Woburn

                1. Michael's Deli in Coolidge Corner sells them.

                  1. I just saw them at McKinnon's in Everett.

                    1. Fresh Pond Market on Huron Ave in Cambridge

                      1. The real question is who carries the 1 pound ones!?

Do they make 'em that big? I thought even Speed's uses the half-pound ones.

                          1. re: hargau

I talked to "The Man" at Pearl. He said the only place, locally, that you can get one of those ! lb. puppy's is at The Halfway Cafe!

                            1. re: Harp00n

Eagles Deli has them listed on the menu.

                              1. re: lergnom

lergnom, you're absolutely right, I just looked at the menu myself. Sez "Pearl" 1 lb. hot dog, $6.75. So much for listening to "The Man"! Hey, wait a minute, The Eagle's got a strong connection to The Andleman Purple Gang and so does the Halfway. Ya think they might be getting a piece of the 1lb. sales action?
BTW, thanks for setting me straight :-))

                          2. Thanks for all the locations. I'm looking forward to tracking them down. I'm assuming they are always in the deli counter? :)

                            1. You could also try calling or e-mailing the company...

                                my response from Pearl:

Thank you for your interest in our products, we do not have published anywhere the exact locations of where to buy our franks, we sell to may supermarkets such as Roche Bros, foodmaster, demoulas, shaws, stop and shop, trucchis, omni foodstores, curtis farms, park and shop, and a bunch of little retailers. If you give me your location i should be able to better pinpoint a location for you.

                                thanks again

Unfortunately (after reading this post), we toddled off to the Stop and Shop in Hudson. Not a big trek but, out of the way for us.
We had great hopes in scoring some Pearl's for a 4th of July party.

Alas, the Hudson store does not carry Pearl hotdogs, only Kayem!!

We were really bummed out. Does availability vary according to store location?

                                  1. re: Lilibet

                                    yes it does vary.
also the Stop-n-Shop in my area does not put the Pearl franks in the case, you gotta ask for them.

                                    1. re: Lilibet

A little late for the 4th of July, but the Hudson Stop-N-Shop had them in the deli case last week.

BJ's in Medford has a 2.5 lb box for $7.99.

                                  2. Farmland in Wakefield

                                    1. Thank you everyone!! We got some at Russo's and they were amazing. They were definitely very tasty! Well worth the search. :)

                                      1. You want a Pearl ... cooked to perfection ... go to Fred's Franks {as seen on the Phantom Gourmet}. Did not make it there this season ( though I think he is still open)- have you tried any of the lamb sausages Sound wonderful!

                                        2. For those interested, I was happy to see the smaller Pearls available now. They are slightly longer than a regular hot dog but the diameter of a regular one instead of their big ones. I found them in the regular prepackaged hot dog section. I got them at the Star Market on the Fenway a few days ago and saw them at Roche Bros. in West Roxbury as well.

they are my fav. i find them (the small ones ) in the reg.pre-pack hot dog section
and the large (beef ones) behind the deli case at market basket

if you look at the top hot dog places in and around this state 6-7 out of 10 use pearl's

                                          2. Halfway Cafe in Dedham serves them.

Don't know about other locations, but Roche Bros. in Westwood has Pearl. And Maple Leaf.

                                                1. re: jgg13

This weekend, I purchased them from the Roche Bros deli case for the large ones. You can can the packaged smaller ones with the other hot dogs items. Stop & Shop @ Beverly has the big ones in their deli case as well. These are a staple for my family when there is grilling weather.

                                              2. I always marvel when three year old threads suddenly get randomly resonded to. BTW Pearls aren't even the least bit difficult to find these days. They're at most major supermarkets for starters.

I brought it back to life because in a web search this particular thread shared the sentiment that you just echoed. However, the major supermarket that I went to today did not have them, so clearly they're not as ubiquitous as you state. Also, it is entirely possible that someone else will have the same bad luck that I did, in which case perhaps they'd like to know that the shaws in central sq does not have pearl hot dogs if they come across this thread.

Feel free to give specific advice as to where exactly one can find pearl hot dogs instead of just handwaving and saying "most major supermarkets for starters".

                                                  1. re: jgg13

Market Basket in Rindge New Hampshire usually, but not always, have them. If you're near a Market Basket, I'd call them and see whether they are in stock.

                                                    1. re: jgg13

The Star at Packards Corner always has them: in the deli counter, by the pound or singly. They're not with the packaged hot dogs.

This is also the case at Stop and Shop and, indeed, most major supermarkets.

I was actually thinking of hitting up that S&S tomorrow. It's pretty far out of the way though. C'est la vie.

Calm down Sparky, sorry to hurt your feelings.

Okey doke. Try any Stop & Shop, every Star Market/Shaw's I've ever been in, Roxie's in Quincy, The Hilltop Butchershops. I've also seen them in Market Baskets and Hannafords. If you want one prepared for you there's rougly a billion places that use them. Some of my favorites are the aforementioned Half Way Cafe and Fred's Franks as well as Eagle Deli in Cleveland Circle.

I suppose you could also just call Pearl and ask them too.

However, as far as I can tell, no, one can not purchase them within walking distance of central square - with over 5 supermarkets in that range, despite various implications that one is an idiot if they even bother to ask this question.
