Does anyone know if Manzanilla is still open in Ensenada? It's in the same league as Laja, but I'd heard the chef and his wife (the pastry chef) had moved back to D.F. I'm going to Ensenada in a couple of weeks and would really like to try this place if it's still open. It is (was?) on Riverrol. TIA

No, unforutnately not. The demands of a kitchen renovation took precedence, and I couldn't get lodging reservations for the dates we needed at the locations we needed. Looks like we won't make it until after Labor Day now.

Bummer. Well, you'll get there eventually. I still need to make it to Laja myself. Hopefully sometime this summer...

When you do go to Ensenada/Guadalupe, you should also consider dining at the Adobe Guadalupe Inn (near Laja and reservations are essential).

We had an amazing meal there last fall. The wine list is extensive and most of the producers listed do not export and produce very goodt wine in very small quantities.

The delicious red wine that we enjoyed with our main course was stamped "238 of 500".
