Arrowroot for fruit pie filling?

I was planning to make a cherry pie tomorrow. I don't have any tapioca on hand but do have some arrowroot. I've never used anything but tapioca. Does arrowroot work for thickening fruit pies? If so, is it a one to one ratio?

If not, I'll go get tapioca in the morning. Don't want to ruin the pie.
