Hi all, I just started a summer 5-week class at UTA that runs all day Friday with a lunch break? Any good eats within walking distance or short drive around campus? I see a lot of ethnic eats, anyone know of the good ones?

There's a First Chinese BBQ at Pioneer and Collins, which isn't too far at all. There's also a Vietnamese grocer in the same center that serves banh mi (sp?) and other food.

There are a lot of interesting ethnic places there though. You'll have to try them out and let us know what you think!

Based on a rec in the Star-Telegram i went to the Biryani House (1309 S. Cooper I believe) I got the lunch buffet which was 4.99. The food was neither at the best temperature or spiciness, but I guess that's what you get with a buffet. It was, however, very tasty, and had a good mix of dishes. Naturally you can get individual dishes, and those they may tailor to your spicyness preference. The place that intrigues me now is up the street a couple of hundred feet. It's called Baghdad Cafe I think. I'm not familiar with Iraqi foods, but i assume it'll be another take on the Israeli and Lebanese type mediteranean foods.

Tried Bethany Cafe for a quick lunch yesterday. Had the curry pork chop rice plate with a green tea latte for $6.00. Definitely a bargain! The dish was nothing to write home about but certainly better than your run of mill Panda Express joint. Cheap and fast.

Bethany Cafe is a hit or miss. Cheap food but you must know what to order. I won't go there when the local high schooler is out for lunch/ or Past 7pm at night in the area by yourself can be scary. In general...I like the place because it is cheap, but not everything is good. Some is expensive considered what you are getting. Staff can be rude when they are busy. I like the food as a Taiwaness american, but most of my american friends preferred First chiness BBQ or Kings BBQ near Colin street.

Bentley's Bar has good hamburgers (Abram St.)
I will agree with Queen B that First Chinese Barbecue is very good. Good service, too.
Jim's Burger on Division. (It's small, old, and dirty looking, but the burgers and fries are great!)
There's a little place on the corner of Divison and Cooper that sells Gyros, but I don't remember the name or if it's good.

I just tried the new Billadelphias location and I must say the cheesesteaks are just as good or maybe a bit better than the Euless location. Bill is the owner of this location unlike the other one where his brother runs it. There are no tables outside (thank goodness). They have booths with two tv's for each booth. The restaurant has a projector to watch games. He also stated that they will be getting plasma tv's as well and maybe start doing some karaoke once or twice a week.

By far the best mexican food I have found in Arlington (thus far) is actually in a Texaco gas station on the corner of Cooper and I30 (NW side--near Jack in the Box). It's bizarre, the taqueria is in the back of the gas station and you have to first pay the attendant for whatever you wish to order, and then take the ticket back to the taqueria guy. It's not a great place to sit and eat (although you can--there is a table with chairs), but if you want to take some tacos or a burrito home this is the best I can find. They serve three tacos with beans and rice for $4.50, and the meat is excellent--the carne asada is seasoned just right, the carnitas are nice and juicy, and the chicken is tasty as well. The burrito is about the same price and very delicious, although they treat it more like a large taco by choosing not to roll it completely. Once I asked the guy to roll it like a normal burrito and he just looked at me in a confused manner. I love this place.
