Hi,

Can anyone recommend a restaurant between 50-55th and 2nd/3rd? Any type of cuisine--just looking for someplace nice-ish (for boyfriend's mom) and moderately priced. Thanks in advance!!

I really liked Montparnasse on 51st near 3rd. French bistro, good food, nice place.

I agree - and I don't know if you are going for lunch or dinner, but they have a reasonable and tasty prix fixe at lunch.

I just had Pampano for lunch. While the food was great, service made me never think about going there again. Our waiter was very pushy and showed his disappointment when we didn't order cocktails or desserts. The bus boys were constantly hovering over us, waiting to take everything away.

Smorgas Chef is a Swiss restaurant on 49th and 2nd which is very quaint and deilcious. I'd stick to typical cuisince like their meatballs and lamb rather than their salads.

Sorry to hear that - I've only been once - I'm sure we didn't have alcohol of any kind, but did have a dessert. Luck of the draw I guess!

Have been meaning to try Smorgas Chef since Ulrika's closed - it is Swedish, right?

Jubilee on 54th between 2nd and 1st. It looks like a dump from the outside, but inside is rather nice. And the food is very good. I'm not a fan of the food at Montparnasse.

You'll absolutely need a rez at Jubilee though.

We recently had a fabulous lunch at Pampano after reading about it on this board. We sat on the outdoor upstairs deck. Will definitely return.

Chin Chin is supposed to be really good Chinese that is a little pricey (I won't know personally until I eat there tomorrow). There's also Sushi Rose if you want sushi/Japanese.

Sushi Rose is gone. There are a couple newer yakitori places along 52nd street now. Haven't been to either, but I think they're a little more authentic japanese than your standard sushi "maki house."
