      I second EJ's. Eggs Benedict---outstanding. Go early.

    2. Nice croissants etc. at Payard, on Lex around 73rd (?). Also Via Quadronno - 73rd just west of Madison - my favorite treat is their cappuccino.

      1. A bit north, but Cafe Sabarsky in the Neue Gallerie on 5th Ave around mid 80's.

Peter's on 1st b/w 83rd and 84th. Service can be slow, but food is very good. I've been many times and have ordered delivery numerous times. Also, the place is gluten-free friendly and vegatarian and vegan friendly.

The OP was seeking a breakfast place, as was I when I trooped over to Peter's this morning. While it may be a brunch place on the weekends (no hours were posted), Peter's is clearly not a breakfast place.

I did find what I was looking for a few blocks south at 81st and 1st. Gracie Mews has a wide selection of omelets and other breakfast dishes. In a world where everything has to have a trendy angle, it is a throwback to an earlier time (although the decor is not old) with a basic Greek-run diner menu.

Peter's is also not very good. I ordered a breakfast burrito there once and it was served to me wrapped in paper and then in foil and was cold in the middle...as if it had been frozen. I could have had better food at McDonald's.

We have tried just about every diner for breakfast on the UES (75th & up) over the last ten years. Gracie Mews is not even close to good if you order eggs, nor is it place for dinner either. The only one with a passable breakfast of eggs and home fries is the Yorkville Diner on 79 St just off 2nd Ave. The only diner worth eating dinner in is the Mansion at 86 St and York Ave.

          2. Try Bistro Le Steak on 75th/3rd. It has a really good brunch, great bloody mary's and great prices!
