Just back from 10 days working and playing in Mexico City. Lots of good food: the tacos and gorditas all incredible. A couple of fancy meals with natives: Le Cardenal was just spectacular. The best sangrita ever, the greensauce and avocado starter fantastic, the huitlacoche fantastic, and the mains all fantastically spiced, complex yet direct. The lamb was unbelievably good, the meat so tender yet strongly flavored. The whole experience was great. Rosarita tacos at Casa Bella were excellent; tuna tostadas and fish on a board at Contramar great. San Angel Inn mostly notable for margaritas and the scenery. Cafe Tacuba very jolly for lunch with a baby-- enchiladas verde, special tamale and the cafe con leche all very homey and good. The other great experience was Bellinghausen, in Zona Rosa, which I haven't seen on the boards. An incredibly slow long lovely lunch outdoors with birds and flora and impeccable but relaxed service. Beautiful little starters, including chiles, little fried fish, beef tacos. And then the langoustines!!!! Oh my! Also, the best deserts anywhere. A wonderful experience.
