The new Zagat guide gives Zushi Puzzle (1910 Lombard @ Buchanan) a 27 for food... making it the second highest rated sushi restaurant in the bay area (behind Sushi Ran with a 28)! I've driven by a million times, but have never even thought about going in. Is it really that good? If I go, are there any "don't miss" specials to try?

Definitely try to get a sushi bar seat so you can interact with Chef Roger. He is very proud of his sushi, his three fish suppliers, and his independence in running his own restaurant. See if he'll offer you a complimentary shot of his infused sake - might be his watermelon or margarita flavors.

His aji sashimi is one of his specialties.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Zushi Puzzle in the new Zagat.

I ended up going to Zushi Puzzle earlier tonight. It was well past 8 pm on a Monday night, so the place was not even half full, but the sushi bar was packed.

The sushi was excellent, as always.
