If you are in the Silver Spring, MD, area: For tex-mex, I'd try the popular Mi Rancho on Ramsey Avenue. The steak tacos al carbon are great! Or for more authentic Mexican, Samantha's is popular on University Blvd.

        Isn't Samantha's Salvadoran/Mex?

For snack food, try Taqueria El Charrito Caminante in Arlington which has excellent goat and chorizo tacos. For dinner, not too many choices. Oyamel in DC has some really good items, notably the wild mushroom soup. Good carnitas at Guajillo in Arlington.

For Mexico-Mexican, I love Taqueria Distrito Federal in Columbia Heights and Pepito's in Adams Morgan. I haven't been to the new Oyamel downtown but the old one was pretty great. Guajillo in Arlington also is pretty good. There doesn't seem to be much good Tex-Mex here but Austin Grill is okay. I can't recommend any New Mexican places.
