Just had lunch at Willie Mae's

Arrived at 11:00 anticipating potential crowd. Until about 10 minutes before leaving, we were the only people there. The fried chicken was outstanding, but part of the vibe of the place pre-K was the great mix of people. Hopefully, that will return soon. I was interested to learn that Willie Mae herself has now retired. This was news I'd not heard reported previously. The staff was extremely polite and welcoming, however. They are open for lunch only, from 11:00-3:00 Mon-Fri. They will open on Saturdays when special events are occurring in the city. I must admit that I am perplexed by the lack of media attention on the reopening. However, I am also full of fried chicken at the moment, and that is a very good thing.

  1. Great to hear Willie Mae's has reopened. Sad to hear that Willie Mae has retired. Was her granddaughter there?

    1. One more question: is the stewed veal chop on the menu, such that it is or was?

Yes, I believe one of the ladies I met was her granddaughter. And yes, the veal chop was on the menu.

      2. I'm glad to hear it's back open. I had read in the attached article that Willie Mae had been ill, and that the restaurant opened and closed shortly thereafter. Glad to hear it's back open.
Also, the article has good information on Dooky Chase's.
