anyone remember a place in/near Elizabeth NJ called Helecki's (sp?)

When I was a kid in the early to mid 60's, I had an aunt who took me to a place called Helecki's (that's a pretty phonetic spelling). I remember having a ham sandwich on rye and a mug of rootbeer. I think it was somewhere near Rte 1. In my memory, it was large and had picnic tables to sit at. Spotty recall, I know, but I've often thought about that place and wondered if it was still there or if anyone else remembers it.

  1. You know, that name has a familiar ring to it (I grew up in Linden), although I've never been there. I've been wracking my brain since I read your post but can't come up with anything constructive. The only food-related memories I have of Elizabeth were two places in the Berg...a little storefront owned by an elderly Italian woman who made the most fabulous lemon ice from scratch...and let's not forget Spirito's for good, inexpensive Italian. :)
