Washington Street Ale House

After 3 enjoyable trips here, I had to make a post. I'm surprised to not see a lot of mention of this place!

I really like the options on their menu and always have a hard time choosing. Their portions are a good size, the prices are just right, food delicious, excellent beer list. Is it just me? Any other fans? And if so- what should I order next?!

It's in Wilmington, DE on Washington Street, right next to Makimotos and down the street from Domaine Hudson.

Unfortunately, I've always found this place to be pretty dull, food-wise (not to mention it is extremely loud and not a whole lot of fun to sit in unless you're just there for drinks). The one time I tried to get mildly ambitious and ordered a seafood pasta dish, it was absolutely awful. If you want a cheeseburger, great, but I would not go out of my way to eat here. Happy hour is another story, since I work two blocks away. BTW, their deck is still under construction right now and it's putting a serious crimp in table availability.

Thank you travelmad478. I just do not get this place. At best I think the food is just ok and we have been many times because the husband likes the beer. I just do not understand why Wilmington cannot have a Pub with really good food. Having said that I think our best is Buckleys but its not in Wilmington.

Well, the gastropub concept is unlikely to ever hit this town, but I don't mind all that much as long as I can get a decent cheeseburger, sit on a patio, and drink a beer--sometimes that's all a person needs. I live a few blocks from Logan House, and that does the job for me (although I wish their fries were better, not to mention their ladies' room). If I want really good food, I don't go to a bar! Buckley's is OK, but I still think the food is not the big draw. Probably the best of the bunch food-wise is Iron Hill. I just went to their Riverfront location for the first time a few weeks ago and was pretty happily surprised.

I go to Wasington St. Ale House for the beer selection, not the food. A couple of months ago I ordered the crab cakes - I should have known better, but they were really bad - all filler.

I like Buckley's and Kelly Logan House much better for a beer and burger especially int eh summer with outdoor dining. Try the sweet potato fries at KLH, they are a step up. Dead President's has decent pub food as well.
