Sepulveda/Palms dessert

Hi all--I drove past a place today on the southeast corner of Sepulveda and Palms (across from Trader Joes and Albertsons) that looked like a Japanese ice cream place. I'm rarely in this neighborhood so I don't know if it's new. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and has anybody tried this place? I'm intrigued. The sign said something like "A Dessert Place." Hot damn I'm intrigued.

You are probably talking about Yoku Yoku, a frozen yogurt place like Pinkberry. It's had some very positive posts on the board.

That's the place - it's actually owned and operated by a young Korean gentleman. Pretty much stylized after PB, but a much broader selection of froyo flavors and it's creamier compared to PB - don't know which you would prefer. Some pretty respectable gelato as well.

We used to go somewhat regularly after shopping at TJ's across the street, but have been witnessing some certain employer/employee-related issues that we'd wish were taken up out of our view. Also have been noticing a lessening of toppings on the froyo. They're worth a try, but this market is getting more crowded by the minute...

It's interesting you say that about employer/employee relations, and the lessening of the toppings. Others on this board talk about how great and "kind" the people are there, and to me it just had normal service. Maybe it started like a lot of restaurants do, bending over backwards to please, and then fall into their "normal" level of service.

It very well could be, or it might have just been a bad day for those involved... I just thought an otherwise decent place to grab some gelato or froyo had been compromised by what a customer should have never seen on the floor or outside the shop... I shouldn't complain about the topping rations though - it seems they all are pulling back... Yoku, PB, and CiFiore...

Yeah, we like this place--it's frozen yogurt and gelato. It's called Yoku Yoku, but in our family we fondly call it the "House of Desert" as it was charmingly misspelled on the original sign, now (sadly) corrected. The decor and the frozen yogurt are Pinkberry-ish (a bit less icy). The gelato is very good, fairly traditional with the occasional interesting flavor--on the Official PayOrPlay Family Westside Gelato Scale, not as good as Mondo Gelato, better than (but with fewer flavors than) Milano Freezer or Il Cono. Friendly service and generally much less chaotic than your typical Pinkberry.

Here's a long thread of reviews from a few months ago, mostly positive.

I've stopped going there because I have yet to get a straight answer about the nutrition facts. Does anyone know this information?

They post that its low fat but if you ask they cannot provide the nutrition facts. I was told, "It depends on what kind of day you're having"
Makes me think its not so good for you.

also, you can't get the nutrition facts, from pinkberry
nor from 'red mango' on westwood.

Pinkberry posts nutritional info at the checkout.

If you aren't coming late, Yoku-Yoku is in the same stripmall as Royal Donuts. Try the cinnamon roll and a crumb donut for le$$ than a small frogurt.
