I have a craving for lumpia...

Okay, I haven't had lumpia in quite some time and I have a craving for it. Unfortunately, I live on the outskirts of chowhound county in Simi Valley and there's nothing close that I know of? I would guess that I need to venture into the SFV for this? Any suggestions???

You might want to go to Seafood City and get a pack of Pinoy Select Lumpia. You have a choice of chicken, pork and veggie, but I always get chicken. Then head on to the condiments aisle and get a bottle of Jufran Sweet and Chili Sauce.

Drive home as fast as you can, cook some kanin, fry up those babies (as many as you want) and in 15 minutes, sit down to a satisfying lumpia meal! To make it truly pinoy, make sure you have instant mami. Pour the broth and noodles on your white rice, mix and have it with your lumpia generously dipped in the chili sweet sauce. Haaay... carb heaven! Sarap :)

I always dip it in garlic and pepper-infused vinegar. Be careful with those frozen ones, though, as they cause the oil's temperature to drop, so you'll have to crank up the heat in between batches to compensate.

I get my lumpia from Little Ongpin on Beverly. They are so good there.

You guys are making me soooo hungry!!! I never even thought about asking some of my filipino friends to order it for me? But to stop the craving, sound like I need to find a Filipino grocery store!!! =P

Max's of Manila in Glendale has pretty descent lumpia. Their fresh lumpia is better than their fried. It's kind of like a Filipino Sizzler in there, but it's great for comfort food. Also a good option for fried lumpia is finding a Filipino grocery store like a Maynila Market or Island Pacific and buying a package of frozen lumpia. Most of them taste pretty close to my mom's. (Which is the best lumpia I know of). You just need to know how to fry. Since you live on the outskirts, it's a good way to always have it handy!

I still say that MY mom makes the best lumpia :D

I've actually found acceptable substitutes at some Hawaiian joints since there's such a cultural crossover there. Try L&L or Brudda's.

ohh max's... i love their garlic fried rice.. and well.. their chicken.. what else? hahah =) and love my fam's lumpia too... but it gets time consuming (lumpia wrapping parties anyone? hahaha) so we just order from a friend...

slobound, if you have filipino friends, you may want to ask them if they order lumpia from someone and then you could probably order a pack of frozen lumpia from them and have a stash.. much better than teh ones at seafood city.. but i'll eat those too =) hahaha
